MKT501 2nd GDB Spring 2011

It was published in The Daily News that a Brigadier was using security alarm product of XYZ Company for personal car. Once he visited a market for shopping and parked his car out side the shopping mall. During the shopping the security alarm echo alerted his mind that there was a problem with his vehicle. Before, the Brigadier turned back, the traffic policy warden was inquiring the event from the market visitors. People were reporting there was a suspicious person who was trying to unlock the car but due to efficient security system he could not and vanished. Brigadier recorded his message that if he had not used the specific security system of particular company, he would have lost his car.
Discuss with logical reasons which type of promotion mix tool is presented in above scenario?

isl201 GDB solution spring 2011

Social structure is a term used in the social sciences to refer to patterned social arrangements which form the society as a whole, and which determine, to some varying degree, the actions of the individuals socialized into that structure. The meaning of “social structure” differs between various fields of sociology. On the macro scale, it can refer to the system of socioeconomic stratification (e.g., the class structure), social institutions, or, other patterned relations between large social groups. On the meso scale, it can refer to the structure of social network ties between individuals or organizations. On the micro scale, it can refer to the way norms shape the behavior of actors within the social system.
These meanings are not always kept separate. For example, recent scholarship by John Levi Martin has theorized that certain macro-scale structures are the emergent properties of micro-scale cultural institutions (this meaning of “structure” resembles that used by anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss).
The English word ‘society’ can be stretched or narrowed to cover almost any form of association of persons possessing any degree of common interests, values, or goals. ‘Society’ in the nineteenth century meant the upper classes; one might now refer to ‘international academic society’ or ‘European society’, though these uses might be disputed. The primary and most normal sense refers to a society defined by the boundaries of the state, even though this usage is odd and potentially misleading in the many cases where there is more than one sizeable ethnic or cultural group in a society, like Canada and South Africa.
Philosophy Dictionary: society
A group of persons unified by a distinctive and systematic set of normative relations, whereby actions of one are perceived as meriting characteristic responses by others. To be part of the same society is to be subject to these norms of interaction.
A society is a group of humans or other organisms of a single species that is delineated by the bounds of cultural identity, social solidarity, functional interdependence, or eusociality. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals that share a distinctive culture or institutions. Like other groups, a society allows its individual members to achieve individual needs or wishes that they could not fulfill separately by themselves, without the existence of the social group. Society, however, may be unique in that it is ontologically independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of its constituent individuals. As a reality sui generis, or “of its own kind”, it is emergently composed of social facts that often hinder rather than help the pursuits of the subjects that form its physical and psychological underpinnings.
More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied multitude of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society; or even a social organism such as an ant colony.
The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes.

MCM301 First GDB Spring 2011 Solution

Good communication is required for individuals or individual organizations to establish understanding, cooperate with one another, determine a common purpose and coordinate efforts. Humans are social animals and as they live in societies they are compelled to communicate. To live in a cohesion and peace they need to resolve their conflicts with extreme care, which is not possible without a mutual understanding. This world is dependent on the “Give and Take” theory so ignoring others’ benefit to get own is a dead end. Common or Mutual understanding means coming on the common interpersonal negotiable points to increase the possibility of getting problems solved.

SOLUTION:

As organizations move more business processes online, protecting the
confidentiality and
privacy of the information used during these processes is essential. Because many
automated processes rely on electronic documents that contain mission-critical,
personal,
and sensitive information, organizations must make significant investments to
properly
protect these documents.
Stop the Hack and Secure Your Website in 10 Best Methods
If you are a business owner, then you must know how important it is for you to
have your
own website. You can use it to be able to reach as many target customers as
possible.
After all, they are located in almost many parts of the world. You can display all your
products and services in yo ur website. But do you know that they can be a great
area for
hackers to play on? So how can you protect your website against hacking?
1.
Protect your files with passwords
. Surely, your website will contain scripts,
database, and files that are not meant to be shared publicly but for perhaps the
search engine bots. To avoid having an yon e getting hold of them, it may be ideal
to protect them with password. However, you hav e to make sure th at these are
ver y hard to decipher. This is because they can simply make use of passworddeciphering
software. You can combine alphanumeric characters and exhaust all
the character limits as much as possible.
2.
Secure your e-mail address
. There may be times when you will be receiving an
e-mail address courtesy of your online business form. There are even others who
will send a message directly into your mailbox. This may mean th at spammers
have got hold of your contact information perhaps in the Web or from someone
else. To prevent this, you can make use of software that will split your e-mail
address. It will then very hard for spamming software to read. You can also just
add an E-mail Us link into your website or an image which can be clicked and
allow your customers to send an
e-mail
right away. There’s no need to reveal the
e-mail address.

3.
Don’t leave e-mail addresses anywhere
. Perhaps you’re thinking of mark eting
your website in forums and other public online networks. This is okay; however,
you have to be very cautious. Hackers and spammers are very much interested of
your e-mail address. You can make use of a bogus one, and simply add a link of
your website in the signature.
4.
Secure your source code
. There are hackers who are interested in getting your
source code to either destroy it or to build a website clone. That’s why it is very
important that you can protect it against such individuals. You can make use of
scripts that will allow your source code to remain hidden to Internet users. Or you
can simply make use of external CSS sheets as well as files for Javascript.
5.
Check for software patches
. If you have been using some software in building or
maintaining your website, make sure that you constantly update all of your files.
This may be because the older ones can no longer protect your website
from
hackers
and
spammers
.
6.
Sign up for updates
. Majority of the product and software updates may only be
announced in their respective websites. This is to encourage their customers to
continuously be up-to-date too of an y new products that they are currently
introducing into the market. To avoid the hassle, sign up using one secure e-mail
address in all of their newsletters. If you receive any updates, make su re you take
time in reading them.
7.
Add a robot.txt.
This is a special instruction you will give to search engines who
may be visiting your webpages. You can instruct them to only index those files
that are meant for users. You can also direct them to not index an y that are only
meant for webmasters. These may include files and images.
8.
Check the permissions you may have set for your uploaded files.
This is to
prevent any hacker from getting access into your important and confidential files.
You can confirm it by selecting CHMOD for your files located in the web hosting
server. Otherwise, if you aren’t sur e, then you can simply verify it from you r
webmaster.
9.
Take away old or unnecessary files.
It’s normal for search engines to keep files

from your website, especially if they are being ind exed. However, if you remove
them from the server, then no one can access them anymore. It will not be
obtainable for hackers and spammers.
10.
Know your server
. Your server is very essential as you basically keep all of you r
files there, and it will cause your website to run smoothly. Intruders, on the other
hand, can add virus or
malware
into your system, thereby causing damage into
your website. If you are running it on your own, you must know your server
properly. This way, you can set the right security and permission level for your
site.
How to provide persistent document security
A significantly more effective solution for protecting an electronic document is to
assign
security parameters that are an integral part of the document itself. The following
criteria
define persistent document security:
Confidentiality—Who should have access to the document?
Authorization—What permissions does the user have for working with the
document?
Accountability—What has the recipient done with the document?
Integrity—How do you know if the document has been altered?
Authenticity—How do you know where the document came f rom?
Non-repudiation—Can the signatory deny signing the document?
Access Controls
These controls establish the interface between the would-be user of the computer
system
and the computer itself. These controls monitor the initial handshaking procedure of
the
user with the operating system. For example when a customer enters the card and
the pin
code in an automatic teller machine (ATM), the access controls are exercised b y
the
system to block unwanted or illegitimate access.
The identity of the user needs to be established before granting access. The user
should
be given access to the nature and kind of resources he is entitled to access. Actions
taken
by users to have access beyond the limits defined should be blocked and recorded.
Cryptography
In literal terms, cryptography means science of coded writing. It is a security
safeguard to
render information unintelligible if unauthorized individuals intercept the
transmission.
When the information is to be used, it can be decoded. “The conversion of data into
a secret

SOLUTION:
Our personal judgement can be described as our perception, “Perception is a process through which people select, organize, interpret, retrieve and respond to information.” sometimes we view things generally and sometimes very precisely. It is humans' nature that they emphasise over the stereo type effect of perception. We follow a general opinion regarding our matters and follow the idea till end which keeps us away from the actual inner story of a person.
Solution:
It is the human nature that he judges the things by his thinking. Every person when see an uncomfortable or unfamiliar situation, he thinks about it by his own judgment and see that thing by his own perspective. Anyone judges about only people's existing appearance, but the possibility is that either he is unwise or may be don't know better. Often the results of our judgments become not true, because we don't know the reality of the condition. Our judgments restrict us to see the actual thing about the situation, and then misunderstandings create. As, humans have limited thinking so their judgments can never be final. Therefore, we can easily say that "the judgments prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances."

Question No.1 Pumping Lemma Version I and II
a. Suppose we have a language defined below,
anbm Where m = n! (n-factorial) and n = 1, 2, 3 …
Some strings belonging to this language are,
ab , aabb , aaabbbbbb , aaaabbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb , …
[a1b1 ,a2b2 ,a3b6 ,a4b24 , …]
Try to prove that this language is non-regular by Applying Pumping Lemma Version I
and II on this language separately [by taking some example strings]
b. Can we say using PUMPING LEMMA I AND II for sure that a given language is
regular or NOT.
[Hint: Part b is somewhat tricky you need to be go through definition of pumping lemma
thoroughly to give answer of this part]
Question No.2 Defining Context Free Grammars
a. Consider the languages EVEN and ODD defined as language having strings of
even and odd lengths respectively, their RE’s are
Even Length Language:
((a+b)(a+b))* = (aa + ab + ba + bb)*
Odd Length Language:
((a+b)(a+b))* (a+b) = (aa + ab + ba + bb)* (a+b)
Give Context Free Grammars for these two languages separately.
b. Let us define a Language MULTIPLE OF THREE PALINDROME having all
those strings of PALINDROME which have length multiple of three, some
words belonging to this language are,
^ , aaa , aba , bab , bbb , aaaaaa , aabbaa , abaaba , abbbba , baaaaab ,
babbab , bbaabb
bbbbbb, ….
[Null string is included considering zero is also multiple of three as 0 x 3 = 0]
i. Give CFG for this language.
ii. Modify your CFG for MULTIPLE OF THREE PALINDROME for
two languages below,
• EVEN MULTIPLE OF THREE PALINDROME
• ODD MULTIPLE OF THREE PALINDROME
HINT: See appendix to see definition of palindrome, even palindrome and odd
palindrome
Question No.3 Null and Nullable Transitions, Regular
Context Free Grammars
Consider the two CFG’s given below,
S ---- > aAA | bBB | Є
A --- > bB | Є
B --- > aA | Є
S ---- > aAA | bBB | Є
A --- > bB | Z
B --- > aA | Є
Z--- > Є
[Here Є means null string, In CFG’s we generally use Є for indicating null string instead
of ^ sign]
a. Find null and null-able transitions (if any) separately in these two CFG’s
b. Remove null transitions from these CFG’s and give new CFG’s for both cases without
null transitions

MGT 503 GDB new Solution Spring 2011

Applying ideas about strategy to the not-for-profit world, which were created in the forprofitworld, needs to be
done carefully. Clear difference in these types of organizationsexist, one signefficient difference between forprofit
and non-for-profit entities is howthey each determine there effectiveness, While a wide variety of
perspectives exist onnonprofit effectiveness, and it has been well argued that effectiveness is
“sociallyconstructed” (Herman & Renz, 1997, 1998, 1999), nonprofit effectiveness is oftenthought of in terms
of mission (Sheehan, 1996) while for-profit effectiveness oftenfocuses on “profit” and/or shareholder value
(Smith, 1999 & 2004).
So, while for-profits may be mostly focused on ways to “outperform rivals” (Porter,1996, p. 62), not-for-profits
can be thought of as focused on “mission accomplishment”(Sheehan, 1996). While there may be exceptions
when a competitive mind-set isappropriate for a nonprofit to consider in developing strategy, most do not take
thisapproach. In utilizing strategy concepts in nonprofit organizations, most practitioners, consultants, and
authors use various strategy tools – while purging the ideas of“outperforming rivals,” growing shareholder
value, and competition – from the process. But if, those competitive drivers are purged, what is used as a
replacement?
This paper argues that the replacement “driver” for competition in nonprofitorganizations should be a new
concept called “mission gap.” It is the foundationalconcept of a new model of strategy, described in the next
section, which truly capturesthe essence of the difference between the for-profit and nonprofit sectors

Mgt201 Assignment NO:2 Solution spring 2011

a) Risk free rate of return = rRF =?
We already know that:
Required rate of return = risk free rate of return + Market Risk Premium*Beta
rd = rRF + MRP*Beta
Here MRP = Market return – risk free rate of return
Putting the values of MRP in the above equation
rd = rRF + (market return – rRF) Beta
rd = rRF + market return*beta – rRF*beta
rd = rRF (1+market return *beta – beta)
rRF = rd/(1+market return *beta – beta)

We have values of rd = 18%; market return = 16%; beta = 1.50
putting values
rRF = 0.18/((1+0.16*1.5)-1.5)
rRF = 0.18/ (1.24 – 1.15)
rRF = 0.18 / 0.09
rRF = 2%
