MKT501 Assignment No: 2 Solution Fall 2011 December

SOLUTION

Neven is actually now starting price skimming. (Charge a high pnice because you have a substatial competitive advantage. However, the advantage is not sustainable. )

"Skim the cream" pricing involves selling at a high price to those who are willing to pay before aiming at more price-sensitive consumers. This expression comes from the farming practice of milking cows - the cream rises to the top and you skim it off. The advantage of using a Skimming price policy is that you can theoretically get the maximum profit from each level of customer

Skimming Pricing

"A Skimming policy is more attractive if demand is inelastic says the Shapiro text - remember inelastic means there are no dose substitutes

- products that people will pay a high price for because there is nothing else they can buy the is close to the item

~ ~ Prof. Allen says

"A skimming pricing policy involves setting prices of products relatively high compared to those of similar products and then gradually lowering prices. The skimming price is the highest price possible that buyers who most desire the product will pay (skim the cream off the top -- skim the innovators). This market segment is more interested in quality, status, uniqueness, etc. This policy is effective in situations where a firm has a substantial lead over competition with a new products

2. Do you think there will be a fall in sales? How long should the sales fall b nullify the benefits of price increase? (15) Solution:
The high price tends to attract new competitors into the market, and the price inevitably
falls due to increased supply. Once other manufacturers were tempted into the market and the watches were produced at a lower unit cost, other marketing strategies and pricing approaches are implemented.

Acc501 Assignment No:1 Solution 2011

Question No:1
Using the audited financial statements with accompanying information for the year ended June 30,
2010 provided in the Annual Report 2010 of The Crescent Textile Mills, you are required to conduct
“Time-series Analysis” of solvency measures of the company by computing and interpreting the results
of the following ratios for the years 2009 & 2010:
1. Total Debt Ratio
2. Debt-Equity Ratio
3. Times Interest Earned (TIE) Ratio
Solution:
The formulas are:
Total Debt Ratio = (Total Assets- Total Equity)/ Total Assets
Debt-Equity Ratio= Total Debt/ Total Equity
Times Interest Earned (TIE) Ratio = Earning before the tax and interests/Interest
The data Extracted from the balance sheet of annual report of Crestex:
Total Equity is (2010 = 2,672,439) (2009 = 2,261,837)
Total Assets are(2010 = 10,988,698) (2009 = 10,815,934)
Interest is (2010 = ---) (2009 = 22,081)
Earning before the tax and interests (2010 = 463,491) (2009 = 238,518)
Current Liabilities (2010 = 6,010,688) (2009 = 5,805,685)
Current Assets (2010 = 4,202,903) (2009 = 4,085,672)
Inventory (2010 = 1,047,150) (2009 = 940,421)
Cash (2010 = 16,419) (2009 = 18,931)
Calculation:
For the year 2009:
Total Debt Ratio = Total Assets- Total Equity/ Total Assets
= (10,815,934 - 2,261,837)/10,815,934
= 8,554,097 / 10,815,934
= 0.79
Debt-Equity Ratio= Total Debt/ Total Equity
= 0.79 / 2,261,837
= 3.4921007
Times Interest Earned (TIE) Ratio = Earning before the tax and interests/Interest
= 238,518/ 22,081
= 10.802
For the year 2010:
Total Debt Ratio = (Total Assets- Total Equity)/ Total Assets
= (10,988,698 - 2,672,439) / 10,988,698
= 8,316,259 / 10,988,698
= 0.756
Debt-Equity Ratio = Total Debt/ Total Equity
= 0.756 / 2,672,439
= 2.8281007
Times Interest Earned (TIE) Ratio = Earning before the tax and interests/Interest
= 463,491 / 22,081
= 20.99
Question No.02
Using the audited financial statements with accompanying information for the year ended June 30,
2010 provided in the Annual Reports 2010 of The Crescent Textile Mills and Kohinoor Textile Mills, you
are required to conduct “Cross company Analysis” of liquidity measures of the companies by computing
and interpreting the results of the following ratios for Crestex & KTML for the year 2010 only:
1. Current Ratio
2. Quick Ratio (Acid-test Ratio)
3. Cash Ratio
Solution:
The formulas are:
Current Ratio = Current Assets/ Current Liabilities
Quick Ratio (Acid-test Ratio) = (Current Assets- Inventory)/ Current Liabilities
Cash Ratio = Cash/ Current Liabilities
The data Extracted from the balance sheet of annual report of CTM:
Total Equity is (2010 = 2,672,439) (2009 = 2,261,837)
Total Assets are (2010 = 10,988,698) (2009 = 10,815,934)
Interest is (2010 = ---) (2009 = 22,081)
Earning before the tax and interests (2010 = 463,491) (2009 = 238,518)
Current Liabilities (2010 = 6,010,688) (2009 = 5,805,685)
Current Assets (2010 = 4,202,903) (2009 = 4,085,672)
Inventory (2010 = 1,047,150) (2009 = 940,421)
Cash (2010 = 16,419) (2009 = 18,931)
The data Extracted from the balance sheet of annual report of KTM:
Current Liabilities are (2010 = 8,169,138) (2009 = 6,762,527)
Current Assets are (2010 = 5,903,185) (2009 = 4,530,222)
Inventory is (2010 = 2,393,113) (2009 = 1,779,826)
Cash (2010 = 78,851) (2009 = 80,297)
Calculation:
For CTM of the year 2010:
Current Ratio = Current Assets/ Current Liabilities
= 4,202,903 / 6,010,688
= 0.699
Quick Ratio (Acid-test Ratio) = (Current Assets- Inventory)/ Current Liabilities
= (4,202,903 - 1,047,150) / 6,010,688
= 3,155,753 / 6,010,688
= 0.525
Cash Ratio = Cash/ Current Liabilities
= 16,419 / 6,010,688
= 0.002731
= 2.731103
For KTM of the year 2010:
Current Ratio = Current Assets/ Current Liabilities
= 5,903,185 / 8,169,138
= 0.722
Quick Ratio (Acid-test Ratio) = Current Assets- Inventory/ Current Liabilities
= (5,903,185 - 2,393,113) / 8,169,138
= 3,510,072 / 8,169,138
= 0.429
Cash Ratio = Cash/ Current Liabilities
= 78,851 / 8,169,138
= 0.00952
= 9.652103

Mth302 Assignment NO:1 Solution 2011

Q.1
Bought:
1000 shares @ Rs. 56.27 = 56270 Rs
Commission @ 1.2% = 56270*1.2/100 = 675.24 Rs
Total cost = 56270+ 675.24 = 56945.24
Sold:
1000 shares at Rs. = 65250
Commission at 1.2% = 65250*1.2/100
= 783
Total Sale = 65250- 783 = 64467
Gain
Net receipts = 64467
Total cost = 56945.24 (Commission added)
Net Gain = 64467 – 56945.24 = 7521.76
Return on investment = 7521.76/56945.24*100
= 13.20%
Q.2
S = Money accrued after n years is called compound amount.
P = Principal = 15000
r = Rate of interest = 15% = 0.15
n = Number of periods 66months / 12 =5.5years
S = P (1 + r/100)^ n
Compound interest = S – P
So
S = 15000 (1+15/100)^5.5
Future value = 32354.105
compound interest = S - P
= 32354.105-15000
= 17354.105
Q.3
C is the cash flow/period = 10000 at the end of each quarter
i is the interest rate 12% compounded quarterly so 12%/100 = 0.12
n is the number of payments: 15years*4= 60 because interest compounded quarterly
So
PV = 10000 * [1-(1+0.12)^-60/0.12]
= 10000 * [1-(1.12)^-60/0.12]
= 10000 * [0.9907]
= 9907.16

MGT603 Assignment No:1 Solution 2011

After you line up financing, find a suitable location, hire staff and organize a potentially
successful business plan, you must turn to external factors to effectively predict your
future. There are a slew of factors to take into consideration that usually are beyond your
control. While you may have contingency plans in place to deal with outside influences
that affect your business, sometimes the best you can do is improvise when they occur.
Economy
The global economy is one of the biggest external factors that will, at some time, affect
your business. Market fluctuations based on politics, terrorism attacks, wars and currency
devaluation eventually trickle down to most commercial enterprises.
Finance
Wall Street and the solvency of big banks and financial institutions may not seem to have
much to do with your business, but eventually they may affect your ability to continue
doing business. Interest rates, the availability of credit and consumer loans are external
factors you rarely can control.
Weather
If man could control the weather, vacation resorts would know exactly when to charge
the highest room rates. Storms, tornadoes, hurricanes and wildfires are outside your
purview of controllable business factors. In addition to the direct impact a
storm may have on your ability to open your doors at any given time, widespread weather
events often carry a substantial trickle-down effect to a wide range of businesses.
Infrastructure
Zoning laws, highway construction and housing development are particularly important
to retail establishments, restaurants, manufacturers and other businesses that rely on a
location for success. Changes in the local infrastructure may prove either disastrous or
fortuitous to your company.
Laws
State, local or federal changes in the laws can have a direct impact on your business if the
service or product becomes highly regulated or outlawed. Cigarette manufacturers
learned this lesson when public smoking was outlawed in many areas and smoking
indoors has become practically nonexistent. Government regulations such as
those that affect the environment or communication are beyond your control and could
have a direct impact on your business.
Trends
While you may spend a good part of your profits on marketing in the hopes of favorably
influencing trends, some are beyond your control. An increase in technology use by your
customers may be built into your strategic planning, but you may not have planned for
the widespread use of social media that could affect your business. Celebrities who
become advocates for a cause or decide to boycott a certain business practice can start a
trend that could seriously affect your business if you're on the wrong side of the trend.

Customer Base
Your target customer base may change suddenly or slowly over a period of time. The
changing makeup of your neighborhood that attracts more singles or young renters can
affect your business for example if you cater to a more upwardly mobile, family-oriented
customer base. Cultural implications of a changing neighborhood may affect your
business negatively or positively depending on your ability to meet the needs of changing
demographics.

SOLUTION:-
According to these scenarios both companies are providing the best suitable
packages to her employees i.e. The ABC Company offers all of its

employees no matter they are married or not. Whereas the XYZ Company
offers its employees Rs.15, 000 in Education/Medical for their children

MGT602 Assignment NO:1 2011

Background:Entrepreneurship is the process of starting a new business in an innovative way by taking risk and making investment while an entrepreneur is a person who owns and operates that business and spends his efforts, time and capital on an uncertain venture. Many individuals have difficulty in bringing their ideas to the market and creating a new venture. Yet entrepreneurship and the actual entrepreneurial decisions have resulted in several million new businesses being started throughout the world successfully.

The Case:
In September 2011, Hira Zaffar left the Pearl Continental as a Quality food manager, she was thrilled at finally receiving the contract for the official cafeteria of Pace with the name of “Executive Lounge”. Hira was MBA graduate of the Punjab University in 2008. She was employed as a quality food manager since 2010 in PC but unfortunately her experience with the job was not very rewarding which convinced her that she should set up her own business where she could be more experimental and have the freedom and flexibility to work with her new ideas. She was much determined to launch her own restaurant so she presented her business proposal in front of Pace management which was approved later during that year.
Issues:

Q1.
Being an entrepreneur how Ms. Hira should pursue this business opportunity by keeping in view the location and customer type and how this Executive Lounge restaurant should look like?
Q2.What were the inspiring factors that led Hira to start her own business?

A)

At equilibrium the supply and demand are same so

600P=900
P=900/600
P=1.5
Put the value of price in any Equation
Q=1000-(200*1.5)

Equilibrium Quantity is 700

B) Increase in Cost of Production
Increase in cost of production also increases the price of the panadol and increasing in price affect the customers. They make comparisons of prices and shift to Disprine.
